SOLA BAR
Interior Design
Hong Kong

C L O U D I

As is customary with many of our designs, we delight in playing with shadow, lighting, and texture. In the case of the SOLA bar, nestled in the Kowloon area of Hong Kong's Tsim Sha Tsui, our approach was to introduce soft materials to the interior.
We crafted approximately ten panels, each measuring 1.5 by 2.5 meters, where we placed curved corner boxes in random areas and then stretched a fabric membrane skin over them. This was done to create soft surfaces that one can touch while enjoying alcoholic cocktails. With only one predominant window casting natural light inside, our panels are designed to place the shadow casting from left to right, adding a dramatic effect.
We designed all the furniture inside this space to suit the environment, and all the door handles are fallen branches that I picked up during some hiking expeditions in Hong Kong. We also adorned one section of the bar with recycled PVC piping in random placements to mimic a bamboo forest, which also helps to cast shadows into the space.
As with our other projects on lounge bar design, MOVE, we envisioned a chess game between light and shadow, contemplating how we could introduce soft and hard elements into the space.
