LA PIEGA x Midea
Date
2023
Location
Abruzzo, Italy
This project was designed in collaboration with Midea, a global conglomerate specializing in air conditioning and home appliances. The concept was to create a unique sustainable village harnessing photovoltaic power. The design features a recycled foam roofing structure that is entirely self-supporting through the compression of the selected material, without the need for solid rental reinforcement. Flexible solar panels would be cladded on top of the folding roof structure, and internally, this dwelling can provide short-term relaxation. The design also utilizes voluntary wind tunnel effects, where cool air from outdoors can be drawn through openings at either end of the structure.
The brief was to construct an entire sustainable holiday village within the shortest possible duration and at an economical cost. The design could move to different locations simply by unfolding the wave-like form into various areas. By reducing the compressive height of the dwelling, the internal surface area can be adjusted to retain maximum flexibility on the allocated plot of buildable land.
