PROJECT FLOAT Balloon Pavilion
Project Type

Date

Date

Location
Italy
In collaboration with Ceramiche Italia, a collaboration with a historically rich and well-established ceramic tiles company based in Italy. We envision designing a pavilion that resembles a small garden, featuring 1,000 chrome-finished elongated balloons filled with helium, suspended over the cladding of ceramic tiles “garden: beneath the pavilion. The audience will observe the reflection on top, which distorts the geometry created below. We have utilized an opposing type of organic floating chrome-like cloud roofing with a deconstructivism angular platform underneath.
Moving away from the usual commercialistic branding of a pavilion, this project focuses on an artistic installation where the audience can experience a new dimension of a company highly skilled in manipulating solid materials. We envision this concept to be placed in an outdoor area. Once the exhibition is finished, the audience can cut the balloons, either individually or in clusters, allowing them to slowly float away like a celebration of the end of its life after several days of showcasing the product. The lower parts of the ceramic platform will be relocated to the corporate headquarters of the company and placed there as a permanent installation.
In this pavilion, we envision a celebration of architecture where the audience participates in the passage of letting go of a structure that changes with the passage of time and consequences, emphasizing that architecture belongs to a momentary time.
