ABYSS
Shenzhen Design Week, China

We were commissioned by ShenzhenDesign Week in China to showcase our Omino lamp in a highly unique pavilion designed to draw the audience automatically to its specific location. At the time, my son was, and still is, obsessed with optical illusions, so we commissioned special graphics that resemble a cavity entering into the ground, but in two-dimensional lamination. The philosophy behind this design was to cover the entire installation space of around 150 square meters in a checkered pattern, with the center area featuring two infinite cavities that seem to sink into the ground, all manipulated with the same optical pattern. Audience members arriving at our installation felt as though they were not stabilized on the floor they walked on, especially when viewed from specific angles with their smartphone cameras. Despite working with a very limited and restrictive budget, we believe this pavilion attracted more visitors to observe our lighting collection and experience an anti-gravitational enjoyment.
